Getting Your Home Holiday Ready

Getting your home holiday ready can be either super stressful or super fun, all depending on how you look at it (or how prepared you are for everything that you have to do!) Youโ€™ve got to declutter, make sure there is enough room for all of your visitors, set up the decorations, and make sure it is all done while still working and getting everything else done!

And it seems like there is less and less time to do it in, especially now that Christmas seems to start right after Halloween! So letโ€™s take a look at a few quick and easy tips you can use to get a jumpstart on your holiday home prep!

Declutter Early and Often โ€“ It might not seem like much, but decluttering is going to be a huge help when it comes to decorating your home and getting it ready for all the holiday festivities! Think about where everything in your home belongs and what is unnecessary! If it doesnโ€™t fit, or you havenโ€™t used it in a while, donate or dump it! This also counts for cabinet and fridge space, since youโ€™ll need room for food and other goodies!

Put Aside Time To Deep Cleanย โ€“ It may not be fun, but one good deep clean before the holidays start is going to make a huge difference. Air out all rooms, especially guest rooms, flip mattresses, wash bedding and towels, and do all the cleaning tasks that you usually skip so you arenโ€™t scrambling at the last minute.

Stick To A Theme – You may have collected a lot of holiday-themed stuff over the years, but does any of itโ€ฆ go together?ย  The easiest way to have decor that works year after year is to stick to a simple theme and add to it as time passes. You may choose to pick a decoration, color, or general โ€˜vibeโ€™, then build out from there!

Do A Little At A Time- While there might be some pressure to have your entire house decorated at once, stop it! Instead, focus on one space at a time, adding decorations here and there or moving around furniture so it is more guest friendly, rather than trying to build Rome in a day. Decorate your entryway first and outdoor spaces first, then move your way through the most highly trafficked areas!

Pick Your Focal Spaces โ€“ย Remember that even a little can go a long way, so focus most of your holiday decorating plans on your focal spaces, such as front entrance, living room, kitchen, etc. If you want to make guest spaces and bedrooms a bit more festive, stick to neutral colors and patterns with a holiday-themed throw rather than going crazy on the decorating!

Lighting, Lighting, Lighting – One of the biggest aspects that is going to make or break your holiday decorations and theming is going to be lighting. Put up fairy lights, candles, or even the soft glow of lights from a tree and turn off those harsh overhead lights to really get everyone ready for the holidays.

And that is it! Hopefully these small tips and tricks will help you get your home ready for the holidays, but rememberโ€ฆ In the end, it is up to you and how you want to decorate your home to show off all of your holiday spirit, so make sure that โ€˜youโ€™ shine through!
